St. John’s, Antigua – September 17, 2026 – Today, the Metropolitan University College of Medicine (MUCM Antigua) joins the World Health Organization (WHO) and the global healthcare community in observing World Patient Safety Day.
This year’s theme is ‘Safe care for noncommunicable diseases’, with the global slogan “Safe care for life!” Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases require ongoing, complex care throughout life, where patient safety is critical.
At MUCM Antigua, patient safety is the foundation of our medical education. We train our future physicians to uphold the core principle of medicine – “First, do no harm” – through safe prescribing, effective communication, accurate diagnosis, and patient-centered care for NCDs.
On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to building a generation of doctors who prioritize safety, empathy, and quality in every patient interaction.
