St. John’s, Antigua – September 29, 2026 – The Metropolitan University College of Medicine (MUCM Antigua) joins the World Heart Federation (WHF) in observing World Heart Day on September 29.
World Heart Day is observed every year on September 29 to raise awareness of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which remains the world’s leading cause of death, claiming more than 20 million lives every year. The World Heart Federation notes that up to 80% of CVD deaths are linked to risk factors that can be prevented or managed.
This year, 2026, the World Heart Day theme is “Don’t Miss a Beat”. This theme highlights that heart disease can develop with subtle or unnoticed warning signs. It encourages people to recognize symptoms early, adopt heart-healthy habits, and seek timely medical care.
At MUCM Antigua, we are training our future physicians to see the signs, protect the heart, and ensure accessible treatment – the three key objectives of this year’s campaign. From prevention to emergency cardiac care, our curriculum emphasizes early detection and lifestyle medicine.
On this World Heart Day, we encourage our community to prioritize heart health through regular check-ups, balanced nutrition, physical activity, and tobacco avoidance.
