Prepared Before You Step Into the Hospital.
At MUCM, clinical readiness is not something that begins in your third year. It begins on Day 1 and continues through every semester until you are fully prepared to walk into a hospital ward with confidence.
How We Prepare You for Clinical Year
MUCM takes a comprehensive, progressive approach to clinical preparation ensuring every student arrives at their first rotation ready to contribute, learn, and excel.
Foundations of Clinical Medicine - From Semester 1
One of the most distinctive features of MUCM’s curriculum is Foundations of Clinical Medicine (FCM) , a dedicated clinical skills course that runs from the very first semester of the Basic Sciences program through to MD4. From Day 1, students are developing the clinical reasoning, communication, and examination skills that will serve them throughout their hospital training long before they ever step into a clinical setting.
Clinical Skills Simulation Lab
MUCM’s dedicated Clinical Skills Simulation Lab provides students with hands-on practice in a safe, supervised environment before entering real clinical settings.
OSCE Preparation
Students undergo Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) preparation, the standardized clinical assessment format used by licensing examinations worldwide, including USMLE Step 2 CS and PLAB 2.
USMLE Step 1 & Step 2 Preparation — Integrated
USMLE preparation is integrated throughout MUCM's curriculum:
Step 1: Preparation
Built into MD1–MD5 through curriculum alignment, question banks, and the dedicated Review of Systems bridge semester (MD5)
Step 2: CK Preparation
Supported during clinical rotations with dedicated study time and faculty guidance
Students receive structured study time during clinical years ensuring exam preparation and clinical training progress together
You Are Never Alone During Clinical Training
Clinical Coordinator & Placement Team
MUCM has a dedicated clinical coordinator and placement team responsible for managing rotation scheduling, hospital placements, and ongoing student support throughout the clinical program.
Structured Performance Feedback
Students receive structured performance feedback throughout their clinical rotations from supervising physicians and attending doctors at affiliate hospitals. Regular feedback ensures students are progressing, identifying areas for improvement, and building the clinical competency required for residency applications.
Visa Support for US Rotations
MUCM provides full support documentation for students requiring visas for US clinical rotations. The Dean's office directly manages visa application support ensuring students have the guidance and documentation needed to begin their US rotations without delay.
Housing Guidance
While housing during clinical rotations is the student's responsibility, MUCM provides neighbourhood recommendations near clinical sites helping students find safe, convenient accommodation close to their assigned hospitals.
On-Ground Support at Clinical Sites
MUCM maintains on-ground support contacts at all clinical sites ensuring students have a point of contact at their rotation location for any academic, logistical, or personal support needs that arise during their time away from the Antigua campus.
From Clinical Training to Residency Match
MUCM’s commitment to students does not end at graduation. Our career and residency support team works with students throughout their clinical years to prepare them for the residency application process.
Residency Mentorship
Faculty mentors with personal experience in the residency matching process provide one-on-one residency mentorship guiding students on specialty selection, application strategy, and interview preparation.
ERAS Application Guidance
Students receive dedicated guidance on the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) the primary application platform for US residency programs. Our team helps students understand the process, prepare their application materials, and meet key deadlines.
Letters of Recommendation
Students are expected to build relationships with their attending physicians during rotations and obtain their own Letters of Recommendation (LORs) directly from their supervising doctors. MUCM’s career counselling team advises students on how to approach and secure strong LORs throughout their clinical year.
Our Commitment to Every Clinical Student
At MUCM, we stay closely connected with our students throughout their clinical rotations maintaining regular communication, providing timely support, and ensuring no student feels isolated during their time away from campus. Our small cohort sizes mean every student is known by name and our clinical team is genuinely invested in each student’s success, not just their academic performance.
