This is where your medical education becomes your medical career. 72 weeks of structured, hospital-based clinical training at accredited teaching hospitals in the USA and Caribbean.

From the Classroom to the Clinic

After successfully completing the Basic Sciences program and passing the comprehensive exit examination, MUCM students transition into the Clinical Science Program the phase where foundational medical knowledge meets real-world patient care. Clinical clerkships begin after MD5 and run for 72 weeks structured to give every student broad clinical exposure across core medical disciplines, followed by the flexibility to explore their specialty of interest through elective rotations. Clerkship placements are guaranteed for all students who successfully complete and pass the Basic Sciences comprehensive exit exam.

Setting:

Clinical rotations are delivered in a mixed setting combining hospital-based and outpatient-based training at accredited teaching hospitals in the USA and Caribbean.

Core clerkships are mandatory rotations completed at MUCM’s university-affiliated teaching hospitals. Every student rotates through the following core disciplines  building the essential clinical foundation required for licensure and residency.

From CS5, students begin their elective clerkships 24 weeks of self-directed clinical training designed to deepen expertise in core disciplines and explore specialty interests. Electives can be completed at university-affiliated hospitals or at non-affiliated hospitals and are available worldwide, giving students the flexibility to pursue international clinical experience beyond the USA and Caribbean. MUCM’s academic and career counselling team works closely with each student to select electives aligned with their specialty interest and residency goals.
