The 5-Year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program is designed for students who need to build their science foundation before entering the MD program. Beginning with MUCM’s comprehensive PreMedical Program and progressing seamlessly through Basic Sciences and Clinical Sciences this pathway ensures every student arrives at their clinical year fully prepared. The 5-Year pathway gives you everything you need to become a globally accredited physician at the same affordable tuition, with the CAAM-HP & ECFMG accreditation.

Phase 1 - PreMedical Program
Duration: 45 weeks · 3 Semesters
Credits: 90 college-level (undergraduate) credits
Location: Antigua & Barbuda Campus
MUCM’s PreMedical Program not only fulfills all the minimum requirements for joining the MD program including Physics, Mathematics, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, English, and General Biology but also provides students with the sound foundational knowledge needed to excel in the MD courses. Successful completion of this program allows seamless entry into the Basic Science component of the MD program. Advanced placement is available for students who have already fulfilled a portion of prerequisites through college-level courses, an Associate degree, or a Bachelor’s degree. Depending on advanced placement, the PreMedical Program duration may be less than 3 semesters.

Phase 2 — Basic Science Program
Duration: 60-week preclinical foundational program (MD1–MD4) + 15-week integrative bridge (MD5)

Contact Hours: 30–34 per week
The Basic Science Program provides strong foundational knowledge in the field of medicine built for students to carry into their clinical science program. The learning experience is characterized by an integrative approach, clinical case study analysis, small-group discussions, research projects, individualized academic support with one-on-one tutoring, and exam performance analysis. Students must pass all courses with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Students who are unable to pass a course are offered remediation at the end of every semester.

Phase 3 - Clinical Science Program
Duration: 72 weeks (CS1–CS6)
Location: USA / Caribbean (Antigua)
The Clinical Science Program is 72 weeks long and is divided into 48 weeks of Core Clerkships and 24 weeks of Elective Clerkships. This is where your medical training comes to life rotating through core clinical specialties at our affiliated US / Caribbean (Antigua) teaching hospitals.
